Prices & Presentation Details

Most of our presentations are designed to last about one hour, unless otherwise noted. Because presentations involve group participation with hands-on specimens, we set a maximum of 30 students per presentation, unless otherwise noted. Smaller groups are recommended for some presentations, especially those for younger students. Space needs may be determined by group size. Some presentations can be moved from room to room, whereas others need to be set up in a central location for the day.

Transportation

Transportation cost is $1.00 per mile round trip from Wiscasset, Maine.

Program Length

Most programs are designed to last about one hour, unless otherwise noted.

Group Size

Since these programs involve group participation with hands-on specimens, we set a maximum of 30 students per presentation at schools, unless otherwise noted. Smaller groups are recommended for presentations with preschool students. For libraries and other community organizations with mixed-aged family audiences, we set a 75 person maximum or fewer if your indoor space cannot safely accommodate that many people.

Customized Programs

If these programs do not meet your needs, we can customize a program that works for you. An additional fee of $100 will apply.

Space

Space needs may be determined by group size. Some programs can be moved from room to room, others (especially Fins & Flippers and Tide Pools) need to be setup in a central location for the day.

For all presentation, you will need one or two 6 – 8 foot event tables (or equivalent) to display materials and bio artifacts. Seating for participants should be arranged to allow the educator to move comfortably among them while showcasing materials and animals.

Presentations indoors: Ensure there is a dedicated room that can be closed off from the rest of the building to minimize distractions and provide a controlled environment for the presentation.

Presentations outdoors: If the presentation will be outdoors, ensure there is adequate shade available for the animals in their travel boxes. Participants and the educator should also have access to shade, particularly in warmer months. Choose a location sheltered from excessive wind and away from visual and auditory distractions. It’s important that the presentation area and the area where the animals wait are not frequented by through-traffic.

Discounts, Community Funding, and Scholarship Support

Schools, libraries, and parent groups are encouraged to seek funding through businesses and associations, such as a local bank or Rotary, who might be willing to sponsor presentations in their area. On occasion, we are able to provide special pricing for non-profit organizations who would like to bring natural history presentations to their community. Please contact us for details.
