Logistics Assistants are seasonal positions available during Chewonki’s summer season. Logistics Assistants (LA) work as members of a team to support participants and staff in Chewonki’s summer programs. LAs work with staff and participants through the preparation of food and equipment, transportation to and from the field, facilitating resupplies, and post-trip cleanup. LAs may also be assigned to other tasks as needed to support all of Chewonki’s summer programs.

Responsibilities are always varied and at times unpredictable for the LAs. A day at work can consist of anything from driving a trip of participants into the North Maine Woods to repairing broken tents and canoes, in addition to working alongside other staff and participants as they learn how to prepare for and wrap up from a trip. Camp Chewonki Cabin Leaders are kind, empathetic, thoughtful, and fun adults who are responsible for caring for the health and well-being of a cabinful of campers for the summer. Cabin Leaders live in cabins with 8 campers and 1 other leader. They help campers adjust to camp life, develop community with their cabinmates, navigate the daily schedule, and develop the skills to be successful anywhere. In addition to supporting campers daily routines, Cabin Leaders work as teaching assistants in activities and collaborate with trip leaders to facilitate multi-day remote trips for their cabin. Cook (seasonal)

Summer Cooks work with and under the guidance of the Manager of Food Services, year-round kitchen staff, and seasonal lead cooks to provide a safe and smooth operation of the kitchens at Chewonki’s Wiscasset, Maine campus. Duties include the preparation of wholesome and appealing meals from scratch, practicing proper food safety techniques in handling, organization, and storage, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the kitchen to a high standard while being mindful of the Chewonki Mission and Food Philosophy. Science Educator

Chewonki Traveling Natural History Program Science Educators to work as part of a collaborative and dynamic staff team, to deliver educational lessons to a variety of audiences, support the science curriculum at Chewonki, and provide high quality care to our resident animals.
