We’re seeking a new home for a working pair of draft horses – please share if you know an interested farmer. Ike and Ginger will be an amazing team for someone with some teamster experience and plenty of meaningful work to do with them. Ike and Ginger arrived at Chewonki at the end of March last year with a clean bill of health.

Gingersnap (Ginger) is a 5-6 year old mare out of a spotted mare and Percheron stud. Ike is a 4-5 year old gelding out of a Belgian mare and a stud who is 3/4 spotted and 1/4 quarter horse so he’s technically a 7/8 draft horse. Ike and Ginger came from a dealer in Vermont who had recently purchased them from an individual in New York. Both spent the winter of 2023 on an Amish Farm in NY. Ike was purchased at auction in Topeka, Indiana to match and pair with Ginger, who was already living in New York state. They are bonded to each other and we are looking to sell them as a working team only.

Ike and Ginger are well behaved and know all standard teamster commands. They do great in harness, in the cross ties, and on lead in both flat and rope halters. They are both in great health. Ginger is feathered and gets regular scratches and flare ups during particularly wet weather, which has been easily managed with trimming the feathers and topical ointment. They are both currently barefoot. They have received annual vaccinations and boosters for this year and are current on coggins as of mid-June. We are asking $15,000.00 for the pair, which is the price we paid for them last year. Please contact farm manager Jeremy Aines by call or text (781-801-0192) or email (jaines@chewonki.org) with any questions or to schedule a time to meet Ike and Ginger.

NOTE: We do not own a trailer big enough for both of them, and will be unable to deliver them to a purchaser at this time.
