Hello Camp Chewonki!

I have two important updates I am eager to share. First, I recently accepted the role of Vice President of Camp Chewonki, guiding the whole of the boys camp, girls camp and our wilderness trips for teens.

I believe that camp plays a formative role in the education of young people and am pleased to serve your families through summer programming at Chewonki. I care deeply about teaching children to value community and appreciate nature. I am committed to continuing Chewonki’s tradition of creating camp experiences that allow for self-discovery and inspire creativity, compassion, and kindness. My goal is that every camper return home from Chewonki with their eyes opened to new horizons within themselves and the world.

Second, one of my immediate priorities as Vice President was to lead a search committee for a new boys camp director, and today I am pleased to introduce Charlie Fear, a long-time and respected member of our camp community, as the new director of Camp Chewonki for Boys.

Charlie first joined us in 1998 as a camper and has remained highly engaged ever since, including 8 years on the boys camp staff and 3 years as a Chewonki Outdoor Classroom instructor. Charlie will be working part-time with us this winter while he finishes his work at Bath Middle School and will begin as the full-time boys camp director in mid-February. I am thrilled to have Charlie join our team. An experienced educator, leader, and mentor with deep integrity, Charlie brings and a joyful team approach and will bring forward the best of Camp Chewonki for Boys.

This year, we completed our 104th summer of camp with more than 450 campers hailing from across the country and around the world. It was a privilege to be part of their growth and development as they leaned into new challenges, expanded their circles of friendship, and celebrated the special community we created together. Thank you for continuing to make Camp Chewonki a part of your summer tradition.

Sincerely,

Nancy J. Kennedy
Vice President for Camp Chewonki
