Hannah Marshall, a Chewonki Outdoor Classroom leader in 2017 and 2018 who has also led our Central Quebec Canoe Trip, Allagash Canoe Adventure, and 10-day program for Camp Chewonki for Girls, has been named the Outdoor Classroom’s lead educator for 2019. Along with her program experience, Marshall has led a training expedition for Chewonki Wilderness Trips leaders and the Friends of Baxter State Park Maine Youth Wilderness Leadership Program.
“Hannah understands Chewonki,” says Keith Crowley, director of educational partnerships. “She has great enthusiasm for teaching in and enjoying the outdoors. Young people respond to her and she has skills that make her a top-notch leader.” Marshall’s enthusiasm, knowledge, ease with students, and sense of humor quickly made her a valued part of Chewonki.
Marshall is “most excited about working on projects that help set up the whole Outdoor Classroom team for success this spring–and then being out in the field with students, teaching lessons, cooking over fires, and exploring Chewonki Neck,” she says.
This winter, Marshall is working for Maine Huts and Trails through an innovative partnership between that organization and Chewonki. She will return to Chewonki in March to start her new job. We look forward to Marshall and spring returning at just about the same time.
