I had the pleasure of joining the Counselor in Training program on Wednesday night for a campfire at the beautiful and scenic Hoyt’s Point, looking out over Montsweag Brook.

Hoyt’s Point

The campfire was full of the silly and the sweet, the real and the raw. Each CIT had time to reflect and share hopes and fears, delving into the power and joy of camp and spending time close to nature.

Karen and Aaron presented each CIT with a symbol of leadership, selected to represent each individual. Coffee mugs were removed from Karen’s pack basket with laughter and flourish. There were teacups, and shark mugs, cats, and flowers! As I walked away from the campfire, I could hear the chatting and laughter behind me and felt the sense of connection and community that accompanies each summer. Watching this group begin to form, and take the journey to leadership here at Chewonki has filled me with feelings of joy and strength.
