We want to share an exciting update about our dining service for this summer. As we’ve built out our Eastside/Girls Camp program over the past few years, we have tried a few different ways to serve meals, including inside Chapin Hall, outside by the frog pond, and a few other variations. The feedback we got from the campers was consistent and clear: they didn’t love it.
Transporting food from the main kitchen for every meal was slow, inconvenient, and wasn’t fully meeting our expectations of an excellent dining experience for every camper who comes to Chewonki. As we worked through a few different plans to elevate dining for our campers, we thought about some of the most successful special events we have ever hosted at Chewonki in the past, and realized we already knew the answer…
Introducing the Orchard Field Dining Tent!
Located in the heart of campus, our beautiful new triple tent was recently completed, and our staff have given a hearty thumbs-up to the al fresco dining experience.
The Orchard Field Tent will give us table arrangements that maintain the fun cabin meal time conversations. The flow of food service from the main kitchen will position our culinary team to ensure every Chewonki camper receives the same level of high quality meals that are nutritious, delicious and meet the many dietary restrictions/allergies our campers have. Additionally, this centralized covered space can be utilized many different ways outside of meal times!
Campers will continue to sit and eat with their cabin groups or trip groups alongside their counselors. Food will be served buffet style giving all campers excellent quality and variety of selection. The first season of anything new always takes a little adjusting, but so far we’re very excited about the Orchard Field Tent, and look forward to sharing it with the campers!
