Happy Thanksgiving from Everyone at Chewonki

We hope you have a wonderful holiday. This week, some Chewonki folk shared their thoughts about what they are thankful for:

Susan Feibelman (head of Maine Coast Semester): “Maine Coast Semester 61’s Family Weekend was full of authenticity and joy!”

Shelly Gibson (team development coordinator): “Easy access to the things I enjoy doing outside, like hiking and kayaking the coast. I feel very fortunate.”

Innocent Binwa (IT help desk associate): “I’m thankful for all of Chewonki’s staff who helped me during my first year at Chewonki…Chewonki is the second family for me.”

Peg Willauer-Tobey (director of development): “Friendship, family, laughter, fresh air, starry nights, compassion, love, kindness, community, Chewonki!”

Megan Phillips (farm manager): “Warm layers and baby calves, like our adorable new little Poppy.”

Johnson Whippie (Outdoor Classroom field coordinator): “The care and love of this community.”

Jeremy Lucas (program support assistant): “My family enjoys the outdoors as much as I do.”

Henry Heyburn (assistant Boys Camp director): “A home to come back to–and my family being all together for the first time in months.”

Hank Kleinschmidt (cook): “Family and friends. Family and friends.”

Greg Shute (senior vice president): “There’s so damn much I’m thankful for! Our family has always gotten together for Thanksgiving. Over the years, some people have died, of course, but that makes the gathering even more meaningful.”

Carol James (housekeeping): “The good places my children are in now. And Hank’s banana brulée French toast.”

Carob Arnold (facilities manager): “A lot, including being able to work in such a great place with so many fantastic people.”

Austin Muir (Waypoint coordinator): “Volunteers. My program has been lucky to attract some amazing volunteer mentors for students. It’s truly selfless to give your time for free to kids…And: I am thankful for the good food we get at Chewonki. Honestly, I couldn’t do my work without it.”

Alexis Grillo (admissions assistant): “A few days to relax with my lovely family; crackling fires on very dark evenings; saunas in the snow.”

Keith Crowley (director of educational partnerships): “My dog, Millie. And living in Maine!”

Hen. E. Penny (Chicken) “That nobody wants chicken for Thanksgiving.”

Help Us Carry It Home

Community support has carried the Chewonki Annual Fund to $750,000 as of March 31.

Spring is the season to come together and push toward our $1M goal before summer arrives on the Neck.
