Abrar: “I hear Imogen from across the quad yell, ‘Abrar! We’re on the same work program again!!!'”
Imogen: “It has been five times now that Abrar and I have worked on the same work program. Multiple times on the farm, once in the kitchen and now blogging!”
Abrar: “When I found out that Imogen was on the same work program as I was, I was filled with joy! Even though she lives in my cabin, (-Gordy Hall-) we only have one class together, and time goes by so fast here that sometimes we don’t even have a chance to reminisce.
One of our favorite work programs together was the day we worked in the kitchen. We were with our friend Kamron accompanied by Leslie the chef.”
Imogen: “We spent the afternoon washing tomatoes, scrubbing potatoes, and cutting kale, but the time we spent together meant so much more than that.”
Abrar: “I was very happy to work in the kitchen with Imogen and Kamron because at home back in Portland, Maine, my mom usually does all the cooking. I always come home to a fresh cooked meal, which is wonderful and I am so thankful and blessed, but I don’t ever have the time to be in the kitchen with family and friends and enjoy cooking with one another. After coming to Chewonki, my perspective on cooking has definitely changed and I can’t wait to cook in the kitchen with my family once I get home!”
Imogen: “I love to cook, but what I love even more is spending time with my friends, so I was excited to find out that my Friday work program was in the kitchen with my dear friends Abrar and Kamron. It was so cool to be able to cook in such a big and equipped kitchen with our experienced Chewonki chefs.
We are so lucky to have this experience where we can harvest, prepare and consume our own food including farm eggs and milk. It feels phenomenal to be able to provide for our community in these unforgettable moments working in the kitchen.”
