Next week, campers and trippers will arrive at Chewonki for the start of our first session. We’ve been waiting all year for this–we can hardly wait! We asked the summer leadership team to tell us just one thing they are really looking forward to this summer. Here’s what they had to say:

Nancy Kennedy, Vice President for Camp Chewonki: “Blueberry Bake-Off. I love it!” (This is a culinary and community extravaganza: Camp Chewonki for Girls campers use the wild blueberries they’ve picked to concoct blueberry treats to enjoy together on the shores of Fourth Debsconeag Lake.)

Greg Shute, Vice President: “I am really excited that we’ve got a Girls Camp canoe trip going up to Central Quebec this summer. I can’t wait to hear about it.”

Jen Adams, Wilderness Trips Coordinator: “Having the kids arrive. We plan for so long, and then at last the trippers come and make it real. They’re why we’re here!”

Garth Altenburg, Director, Camp Chewonki for Boys: “Watching campers grow. That is always so exciting for me–to see campers and counselors change and mature in so many ways over the course of the summer.”

Henry Heyburn, Assistant Director, Camp Chewonki for Boys: “Unbridled time outside. Swimming, hiking, sailing…It can be windy, sunny, rainy…Just unbridled time outside.”
