Less than one week from today, Chewonki will welcome thirty-four elementary and middle School students to campus for their first day of school, and forty-two high school juniors for their first day of Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki. We couldn’t be more excited to greet this amazing group of learners next week when they arrive on Chewonki Neck.

Elementary and Middle School students will be studying in three mixed-grade outdoor classrooms this year. Grade 1/2 will be taught by Lorna Fake, grade 3/4/5 by new faculty member Jenny Surgenor, and 7/8 by Kat Cassidy. Coreysha Stone, Greta Righter, Jackson Cromwell and Rachel Buttenot will also be returning.

First through eighth-grade students will be joining us from more than fourteen different towns, including Alna, Bath, Breman, Damariscotta, Dresden, Hebron, Georgetown, Newcastle, Nobleboro, South Bristol, West Bath, Westport Island, Wiscasset, and Woolwich.

Maine Coast Semester students will be joining us from thirteen states and thirty-three high schools. We are excited to welcome six Maine students as part of the semester 65 cohort as well, from Blue Hill Harbor School, Dexter Regional High School, Isleboro Central School, Gardiner Area High School, Washington Academy and Waynflete.

The school year ahead promised to be full of challenge, opportunity and adventure – for students, staff and faculty alike. We’re looking forward to sharing all the things we learn along the way!
