Greg Shute, Vice President, received a degree in Outdoor Recreation from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and arrived at Chewonki in 1984 to work on the environmental education staff. In 1991 Greg was appointed as Chewonki’s first year-round Director of Wilderness Trips and in 2016 he was named to his current position.
Greg is a board member and volunteer for several outdoor and conservation organizations, including the Forest Society of Maine, the Maine Wilderness Guides Organization, the Maine State Trip Leader Advisory Committee (Chairperson), the West Branch of the Penobscot River Advisory Board, and the Steering Committee for the Maine State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan. Greg is a Registered Master Maine Guide, and a passionate paddler and wilderness traveler. He lives in Alna with his wife, Lynne Flaccus, and son, Kyle, who is a student at the University of Maine.
