Chewonki, 100 Years of Learning Outdoors

Months in the making and starring a cast of thousands, Chewonki, 100 Years of Learning Outdoors is a wonderful collection of memories and moments from the past century at Chewonki. This film was created thanks to the volunteer effort of Gilbert B. Hammer, and captures a small piece of the spirit and joy so many have experienced here at Chewonki.

About Gilbert B. Hammer

Gilbert was a Chewonki camper from 1970 to 1973. Memorable trips included a ten-day hike along the Appalachian Trail and a canoeing trip on the St. Croix River.

An avid photographer, Gilbert turned his hobby into a profession that grew to include broadcast, corporate video, and webcasting for companies such as Morgan Stanley, Yahoo!, and KPMG. He is now principal of Hammer Media Group, as well as a technology consultant and startup founder, based in Ithaca, New York.

Outside of work, Gilbert enjoys road cycling, hiking, and exploring the Finger Lakes with his wife, Sharon, and their English Goldendoodle. He is also an active member of Ithaca’s Rotary Club, supporting projects that strengthen the local community.
