Chewonki students and faculty recently enjoyed a special showing of Down to Earth, a 2016 film about 13 Maine citizens who tell their stories about why and how they became involved in climate activism. Anne D. (Andy) Burt (grandmother of a student in the Elementary School at Chewonki) and videographer Charlie Hudson (an alumnus of Semester 24, Boys Camp, and Wilderness Trips) partnered to make the film. Andy was at the screening to discuss the film with the audience. Also present was Chloe Maxmin, a writer who grew up in nearby Nobleboro and was co-founder of Harvard University’s Divest from Fossil Fuels campaign. Maxmin is among those featured in the film. The film provided both inspiration and information about ways to engage in climate issues.
