Megan Flenniken, an alumna of Chewonki Semester School, is returning to the Maine coast to co-lead Sustainable Ocean Studies (SOS), a field-based, technology-rich educational summer program sponsored by Waynflete School and Chewonki. SOS seeks to inspire a new generation of ocean advocates through learning and adventure in the Gulf of Maine. The 24-day residential program for rising 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-graders from around the country will run June 25-July 18. Students and teachers camp in some locations and also stay in dorm facilities at the University of Maine’s Darling Marine Center in Walpole, Maine. Megan graduated with a B.A. in biology from Mount Holyoke College in 2007 and has been a marine educator at the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation in Florida and at the Maria Mitchell Association Aquarium on Nantucket. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Stony Brook University in the ecology and evolution department and adjunct faculty at Southern Maine Community College and University of Southern Maine.
