Malin Pinsky (Mariners ’94, Semester 20), a marine biologist at Rutgers University, co-authored a recent study on the dire crisis facing ocean life. The study, “Marine defaunation: Animal loss in the global ocean,” was featured in the January 15 New York Times. It concludes “that humans are on the verge of causing unprecedented damage to the oceans and the animals living in them” says the Times. Pinsky is quoted as saying, however, “We’re lucky in many ways…The impacts are accelerating, but they’re not so bad we can’t reverse them.” Are you doing something to make a difference in the world?
