We’ve got a new name! We’ve bringing forward the semester school’s original name, Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki, and bidding farewell to the moniker Chewonki Semester School. Founded in 1988, Maine Coast Semester (MCS) was one of the first programs of its kind in the nation and continues to stand among the best. “The name change honors the school’s strong sense of place here on Chewonki Neck in Maine’s beautiful mid-coast region,” says President Willard Morgan. Now in its 28th year, Maine Coast Semester has over 1,900 alumni worldwide. You can read more about the name change here. Welcome, KC and Nick We’re very pleased to announce that KC Ford became the new director of admissions and financial aid for the Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki in September. She already seems at home here (it may help that her husband, Matt Russ, was a counselor at Chewonki Camp for Boys in 1994). KC joins us after 18 years at Colby College, where she most recently was the associate director of admissions and financial aid. She has extensive travel experience, a wide network of independent and public secondary schools, and many years working with the admission process from inquiry to student matriculation. New to the semester admissions office, although well-known to Chewonki, is admissions assistant Nicholas McLeod. Nick knows Chewonki from many angles, among them: he’s an alumnus of MCS 40, managed a summer dish crew, helped teach the renewable energy activity at camp, and worked on the facilities crew. He recently returned to Maine after serving as the residential life coordinator at the Ross School in East Hampton, N.Y., for two years. Wylie Mitchell, interim director of admissions and financial aid over the summer, is staying as our senior admissions advisor and college counselor. Wylie led the Bates College admissions office for 28 years and more recently has held positions with Bowdoin College, Colby College, Waynflete School, and Aiglon College in Switzerland.
