Chewonki Nurses deliver routine and urgent care operating out of the Health Center and from time-to-time in the field. This position reports to the Health Services Director to ensure that the Health Center is meeting the needs of all participants. In addition to nursing care, this position is responsible for developing and delivering health curriculum to participants 6 years of age to 18, as well as supporting faculty and staff in their ongoing training in areas such as basic first aid and medication administration.

    • Report to the Health Services Director and act under the accordance of the Maine State Board of Nursing regulations
    • Provide acute and extended care for ill or injured participants
    • Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and an anti-racist mind-set in the interest of students, staff and faculty across the organization
    • Provide routine care for participants with a chronic health condition requiring monitoring
    • Screen health forms for Chewonki participants and staff 
    • Provide triage care for workplace injuries 
    • Offer care and support for each individual participant’s needs, particularly as it relates to identity (racial, sexual orientation, gender, etc.)


  • Maintain the use and storage of health records for participants and staff
  • Continue personal education to stay abreast of health care issues by being a part of organizations such as: The Independent School Health Association, Association of Camp Nurses, and National Association of School Nurses 
  • Contribute to the Chewonki community through participation of chores, committees, and events
  • A willingness to work with and collaborate among the Health & Wellness Center team
  • Maintain confidentiality as it pertains to participants, staff, and foundation information
  • Uphold health care standards and procedures of the Chewonki community
  • Assume other responsibilities as needed


  • Current RN license with the Maine State Board of Nursing
  • Current BLS certification 
  • Valid Driver’s License approved by Chewonki’s Insurance Carrier 
  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting through the Maine Department of Education


  • Attend necessary Driver Training 
  • Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification, to be obtained within 1 year of hire


The salary is based on years of experience within a range of $55,000 – $75,000.  Benefits include; health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, optional vision insurance, long-term disability, 403(b) retirement plan (currently matching up to 4.5% after one year of service), paid time off, and access to professional development funds.
