Kitchen Support Staff work with and under the guidance of the Manager of Food Services (MFS) and year round staff to provide safe and smooth operation of the kitchens at Chewonki’s Wiscasset, Maine campus. This includes contributing to the preparation of wholesome and appealing meals from scratch while practicing proper food safety techniques in handling, organization and storage, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the kitchen and dining facility to a high standard. Position Title:  Kitchen Support Staff 
Employment Category:  Category H
Permanent/Temporary:  Seasonal 
Reports to:  Manager of Food Services
Exempt/Non-exempt:  Non-exempt
Schedule (hours and weeks):  Up to 40 hours per week (includes weekends)


  • Work effectively in a team with the MFS and kitchen staff
  • Maintain a safe, clean, functional work space
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and functional dining facility and dish room

Food Preparation and serving

  • Prepare food under the supervision of the MFS and cooks
  • Assist cooks in the preparation of ingredients including washing (and cutting, age dependent)
  • Assist with the serving of food

Dining and Dishes

  • Sweep and mop the dining facility including dish room, dining area, and kitchen
  • Wash meal dishes and reset tables for the next sitting
  • Wash kitchen dishes and meal preparation tools
  • Clean and maintain the coffee area
  • Organize dish room supplies, dining room supplies, kitchen supplies
  • Maintain and deliver compost to farm compost facility
  • Remove recycling and waste from kitchen and dining room
  • Move between campus kitchens as necessary


  • Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and an anti-racist mind-set in the interest of participants and staff across the organization
  • Assist with special events as needed
  • Uphold and support Chewonki’s recycling and zero waste efforts
  • Represent Chewonki in the greater community in a responsible manner


  • Open to learning new skills 
  • Able to be apart from your cell phone for several hours


  • Start at minimum wage – kitchen experienced will be paid more
