We have added another facility technician position to the team!!!  The facilities team provides support for all programs and departments. Facility Technicians provide exceptional service to maintain facilities, vehicles, and equipment according to the highest standards for use and safety.

Position Title: Facilities Technician
Employment Category: Category A
Permanent/Temporary: Permanent
Reports to: Facilities Manager
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Schedule (hours and weeks): Full-time

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work effectively as part of a team in a diverse community
  • Janitorial duties, daily and responsive
  • Daily maintenance of facilities, vehicles, and grounds could include:
    • Ongoing maintenance of structures and system
    • Snow response, plowing and shoveling, and sanding
    • Capital improvements and repair projects
    • Maintenance of heating and renewable energy systems
    • Public water system maintenance and testing
    • Support for emergency situations, e.g.  power outages 
    • Tree care and firewood processing
    • Painting and drywall repair
    • Maintain composting toilet systems
  • Lead weekly work programs with staff, students, and volunteers
  • Pilot a boat and handle dock systems both in freshwater and salt
  • Small engine repair and troubleshooting, including routine maintenance
  • Logistical problem solving including work site coordination and program specific needs
  • Maintain a safe work environment with a lens of risk management
  • Support an inclusive work environment

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand Chewonki programs and interdepartmental connections, including off-campus facilities and properties
  • Shared on-call response
  • Enthusiasm for getting to know participants and staff 
  • Coordinate and implement community work programs 
  • Participate in staff committees
  • Participate in staff development days
  • Additional projects and tasks as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Understanding of mechanical systems and basic trade skills; plumbing, electrical, heating, mechanical, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, welding, painting
  • Strong work ethic with a positive attitude and the ability to operate effectively under pressure 
  • The desire to learn and adapt to changing conditions (technology, ideas, community norms) is critical
  • Good communication skills for working together and leading work projects 
  • Able to accomplish strenuous tasks in all weather conditions
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for continued professional development
  • Flexibility and ability to work a varied schedule including overnight and weekends, occasionally in remote locations
  • Schedule flexibility for shared on-call responsibilities
  • Must maintain a personal cell phone capable of accessing the internet for on-call responsibilities, community communications, and time tracking

REQUISITES

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier
  • Background check including fingerprinting in accordance to the Maine Department of Education
  • Ongoing classes and training, including chainsaw, driving, Maine Safetyworks, etc

SALARY AND BENEFITS

This non-exempt position has a pay range of $14 – $18/per hour.
