Boys Camp Head Counselor

The Head Counselor strives to personally know as many campers as possible and is the first member of the senior staff available to assist counselors with any challenging camper management issues. The Head Counselor serves as a counselor to Chewonki’s camp counselors and other staff members, providing support for nearly all aspects of their jobs. The Head Counselor is expected to support the growth and development of all counselors in attaining their personal best as an employee.



  • Check in regularly with counselors and provide support as needed
  • Meet with other Senior Staff members to discuss camp concerns
  • Coordinate staff schedules and cabin buddy system
  • Responsible for safety and welfare of participants
  • Provide Direct Supervision of campers as assigned
  • Maintain Mission
  • Maintain Safety
  • Professional communication with parents
  • Become familiar with and abide by Wilderness Protocols as set forth by Chewonki
  • Become familiar with and abide by Boys Camp Protocols as stated in Chewonki Camp for Boys Staff Handbook
  • Fill out all necessary paperwork, i.e. incident reports, camper reports, trip reports
  • Instill fun and teaching into Camp programs



  • Plan Staff Events
  • Assist staff as needed



  • At Least 21 years old to drive participants
  • Valid Driver’s License approved by Chewonki’s Insurance Carrier
  • Must Pass Background Criminal Check



  • Basic First Aid and CPR Certification
  • Attend Staff Training per Employment Agreement
  • Attend necessary Driver’s Training
